This is going to be a long blog post about my summer vacation, since I haven’t updated in months. :)
As the title of this blog post implies, my summer vacation is ending soon. School starts on September 9th, and I have yet to finish my summer homework assignment. FML.
Summer 2009 has been my best summer ever. I’ve never had a summer as busy and pass by as fast as this year’s. This summer I worked at a daycare. This was my first real paying job, so I’m glad I enjoyed it. I got this job through a program called Summer Youth Employment Program (in short, SYEP). I really did not expect this job to be so enjoyable. When I first got selected in SYEP, I had swore not to choose any work sites related to taking care of kids, but this was one of the only remaining ones that seemed “okay”. I chose to work as an office worker instead of a teacher, since I didn’t really want to teach or deal with kids. Office workers are people who basically serve the kids food, clean, organize closets, block traffic (when outdoors) etc, basically the miscellaneous stuff. It was all heavy duty work. The first few days of work made the job seem like crap. I was uncomfortable with the other office worker (also from SYPE), and it was hot as hell. There was NO air conditionings except for the classrooms and offices (which I don’t work in). So you can imagine how hot it was for me, especially since I did the heavy duty stuff, such as bringing up the food from the first floor to the fourth multiple times a day (by the way, did I mention there was NO A.C. in the kitchen?!?). There was also a dress code too! So I couldn’t wear short shorts. I usually never sweat much, but oh my god, I sweated like crazy (not as much as the other office worker though). After about a week, I was notified that I had to teach arts & craft to the primary kids three times a week. I was stunned, since I didn’t expect to teach. I was pretty nervous at first, but it went alright. I taught kids that were between 5 – 7 years old. They are cute, but hard to teach/control. There were like only two kids that always behaved (my favs HAHA).
After getting to know my co-workers and some of the kids, I started to like it. My co-workers really made most of my summer. There was about thirteen guys from SYPE (including me) and four head teachers. They were fun to talk to and to hang out with (with like an exception of like 2). We went to karaoke, bowling, billiards, shopping, etc together. Since I was an office worker, I did not have much interaction with the kids. It wasn’t until towards the middle/end of the program that I started to get close with some of the kids. The whole daycare only had about 30 students (age range: 1st to 9th grade), and they were all unique. Although some weren’t likeable, they are still part of the reasons that made my summer memorable. It’s really sad that I have to part with such awesome kids and co-workers.
This summer I made a little more than a thousand dollars, and I have already spent half of it. TT_TT I really need to save up for senior dues (IM GONNA BE A SENIOR!!!2010!!!). D: I still have more to blog about my summer (ie: my VAMPS experience, etc), but I’ll save it for the next post ^^
